Imogen Simmonds shatters Standard format record
A sunbath welcomed the 3,159 triathletes during this 32nd edition of La Tour Genève. Eaux-Vives beach was the epicenter of the event during the three days of demonstration. There was the bib collection, the exhibitor stands, the catering area and the departures/finishes of the races.
CONQUERED ATHLETES
Having become the annual summer event, the Geneva triathlon once again welcomed more than 3,000 participants during the weekend. The new Half bike course has delighted more than one like Romain Aymon, who with a smile on his face expressed his satisfaction: “The course was great, it's everything we love. This cycling section between town and countryside is absolutely magnificent”.
THE TRIATHLETES SHINED
Young and old set off over the distance of their choice. Saturday at dawn was the Standard format, followed in the early afternoon by the Discovery then in the evening by the Short. This day delighted many athletes who came to challenge themselves over very popular distances. On Sunday, the most experienced set off on the Half distance between Geneva city and countryside, leaving the Eaux-Vives beach free so that the youngest could in turn jump into the water and take part in this triathlon celebration.
What will remain in memory is the great victory of Genevan and defending champion Tom HUG on the main distance, the Half, in 4h 00m 54s. The battle was close from the start between Tom HUG, Philipp KOUTNY, Romain AYMON and the sponsor of the event Thomas HUWILER. The peloton broke away from the start of the race, offering unbearable suspense until the penultimate lap of the race where Tom HUG flew to victory. The champion spoke about his victory “Running is my strong point. I knew I could catch him and I was confident. The key is not to give up on running. I’m super happy to have won here at home with all these people cheering me on.”
Arriving in tears at the finish line in second position, Thomas HUWILER looked back on his race: “Coming out of an injury, I wasn't sure I would be able to return to running. At the first kilometer I felt the emotion rising within me because I felt that my foot was holding. I had a lot of encouragement on the course and the euphoria of the event helped me get back to the front of the race.”
On the women's side, Alanis SIFFERT from Friborg was impressive, ahead of the men throughout the swimming section. This young triathlete has started in the discipline for a year and is already performing well since she finished her race in 4h 46m 41s.
In the Standard format, it was the Geneva triathlete, Imogen SIMMONDS who was crowned among the women with a course record of 2h 03m 01s. Among the men, it was the Frenchman, Théo Lachat, who regained his title following a very close neck and neck with Pierre Ruffaut. Théo finished his race in 1h 58m 04s.

“Over the years, the La Tour Genève Triathlon has become an essential event on the sporting calendar. This year, once again, the organizers and volunteers have done considerable work to ensure that the athletes can participate in the various events in optimal conditions. It is important to underline this commitment without which nothing would be possible,” indicated Marie Barbey-Chpuis, Mayor of Geneva.

This year again, La Tour Hospital is proud to support the event: “This year we offered strength and movement analysis tests with state-of-the-art devices in the heart of the village. An interdisciplinary space with sports doctor, Health & Performance coach and physiotherapists dedicated to medical-sports advice was also there in order to be as close as possible to the participants. We are proud to be the Title Partner of the event, and congratulate all the triathletes for their race” expressed François Fourchet, head of the physiotherapy department at La Tour Hospital.

The entire organizing team, partners and volunteers worked hand in hand to enable participants to accomplish their sporting challenge.
